Olympics 2028 Mockups

The bird of paradise can be found growing all over the Los Angeles area and has become known as the official Los Angeles flower. Its petals resemble the Olympic flame and represent joy, freedom, anticipation, and excitement, all traits associated with the Olympic games. The flower also serves to draw a connection to the Tongva, a tribe who lived in L.A. County over 2,000 years before European settlers arrived. The tribe lived interconnected to flora and fauna, and strongly valued the plant life native to the Los Angeles area.

Process sketches for the Olympic logo, patterns, and icons. Wanted to capture LA symbolism without being cliche. Inspiration initially included surface-level topics: Hollywood, stars, and city lights. The name Los Angeles also prompted thoughts of Angelic symbolism. However, after some digging into the city's history, I decided to utilize the bird of paradise as a tribute to both the Olympic torch and the Tonga tribe, the first people who called LA home. I also wanted to use bright, bold colors to pay tribute to the colorful, bold culture of Los Angeles.
